Lancelot took the shortsword slowly, careful to not harm Silver. He flicked his thumb over the blade of the sword. He could feel the sharpness of the blade. He moved his finger down along the rest of the blade, checking if the edge was consistent all the way down.

"You are doing well. It is slightly more dull near the hilt but otherwise it is well done." The older knight turned the sword around and offered it to his son.

"Take the sword and let us adjourn to the training field. I wish to test your swordsmanship."

As there was little expression in the midst of his examination, Galahad pensively waited and averted his glance to the ground while his Father checked his work. He nodded at the criticism and took the sword back gently.

"You want to train with a sharpened sword?" He stood up, almost as if to protest. "Would ..you not prefer it if I had one of the training sword with a dull edge?" It would be safer for them both. He knew better than anyone how much control it took to wield a sharpened sword during a battle and to not hurt anyone.

But he knew better than to outright say no to the order.

"Do you believe yourself to be unable to spar against me with a sharpened blade?" Lancelot asked in return. It was a test and one he expected Galahad to pass. The young man was his child, after all. He knew the silver hedgehog had talent. He simply needed to find his confidence to grasp it. Perhaps this would assist in that endeavor.

"No," Though his response held a tone of uncertainty behind it, a typical response for someone inexperienced with not being aggressive with others in combat. "I worry about injuring you. Your role is much too important to the people here in the city to suffer for a mistake on my behalf."

"Do you doubt your own control so little? Or do you doubt my skills? I believe you are beyond training blades. However, if you feel you are not ready, we shall use them. The decision is yours," Lancelot left it at that. He would allow his son to choose how he wished to spar.

He should've known it would come back to a loaded question like that. It wasn't his father's skill he was doubting, though that would've been wholly apparent. Galahad looked at his own reflection in the blade, tilting it in his hand as he looked at the worried expression refracting back to him.

"If you believe so, then who am I to second guess you." He looked up and gave a nod. "I will find some armor in and meet you on the field, Father."

Lancelot nodded. If he was satisfied by the answer or not was hard to tell. He turned and left the room. He moved out to the training field with his sword in hand. It wasn't about if he believed in Galahad, it was about if Galahad believed in himself. It was a test of his own resolve. He would see how his son performed against him in the sparring match. He moved through simple sword motions, warming up his body before his son arrived.

It took some time to be able to find the correct armor and to put it on. Training armor was bulky, never fit properly, and had to be tied just right to be effective. After Galahad was finished he headed out to the training yard where his father waited.

Training was nothing new, but training with his Father was somewhat of a rarity. He was both eager and nervous.

"Should we start at basics and continue from there?"

"Yes. I wish to see your form first. Ready your stance," Shadow said as he slipped into his own ready stance. Lancelot knew his fighting stance wasn't traditional but it was one he had honed himself, a style all his own. He was curious to see if Galahad had began to form his own style or was still using one of the traditional fighting styles.

Stance.

"Of course." Galahad put positioned himself exactly the way he'd been told to: he readied his sword out front, positioned his feet and hands where he was instructed to by his teachers. It definitely wasn't something of his own--imitation was the quickest way to learn--even if what he was doing wasn't indicative to his own strengths. It was a powerful stance.. though he wasn't very naturally powerful.

"Ready."

"Very well," Lancelot nodded. He observed the stance. It was true to what Galahad had been taught. He mimicked the powerful stance perfectly, yet he knew it was not one that played to his son's strengths. Lancelot didn't hesitate to move forward quickly and swung his sword, seeing how Galahad would respond.

Galahad managed to step back into a block, but it was painfully apparent that he nearly dropped the sword in the process from the sheer force of the blow. He attempted to recover with a quick repositioning of his palms and strike back with a clean horizontal cleave.
