"Camelot? The Camelot ruled by King Arthur?" She gasped. Time travel it was then. Was this one of his knights? She looked tot he wall. Truthfully, she had been avoiding it after her clothes had recieved a bad reception in the town over.
"I think I'll have to pass. With my current clothes, I think I'm more likely to be chased out of the city."
She did look a little strange.. but Galahad looked off, not wanting to shine light on the fact and risk the possibility of being rude. "I think the people may be more open-minded than you realize," He offered instead. "But it is ultimately your decision."
He shifted his weight to the opposite foot uncomfortably. Letting her stay outside by herself didn't feel right. There were great monsters that would occasionally visit outside the city, and it could be extremely dangerous for those who weren't familiar with their land. "Would I have your permission to return and check on your welfare as long as you decide to stay out here?"
Amy hummed, nodding. She should find some more suitable clothing...or at least some that don't make her stick out like a sole thumb. She could visit in her cloak but walking about all th time in it would attract attention too.
"I can visit the city but not stay. Not until I find something different to wear." She picked up the cloak and swung it over her shoulders, leaving the hood down. "You know, you haven't told me your name yet, Sir-?"
"..? I-I haven't?" The flawless composure wavered. "I apologize." Of all the things to have forgotten, it was a wonder she hadn't kept herself armed with a stranger who didn't identify themselves. His father would have never made such a mistake. And asking to come back without her having known his name? It was a wonder she hadn't run.
"My name is Galahad." He hadn't quite earned the title of 'Sir' yet, though he hoped one day to do so. He might have had distinguished-looking armor, but that was simply a perk of having a Knight for a father. "I'm one of the guards that our King has assigned to sweep the area in search of monsters or bandits. If you stay in these woods by yourself, then it is my responsibility to ensure your safety."
"Sir Galahad." Of course, Amy didn't know he wasn't a knight yet. He looked the part and was certainly acting the part, so as far as she was aware he was a Knight.
It was interesting he hadn't assumed she was a bandit, given she had been practicing archery and looking out of place. Maybe he was a bit naive, but she wouldn't point out his mistake - it might make him draw a weapon on her and she didn't want to get into a fight. "My name is Amy Rose. I'm, a traveler. I was seperated from my friends several days ago."
"No, please. Just Galahad." He didn't want anyone hearing that title and making the assumption he was taking credit for a position he held, especially a title he held in such high regard.
"If you're separated from your friends, perhaps I could assist you in finding them, Lady Rose." He knew a wealth of those in the city and it would be no trouble to ask around. "Perhaps someone in the city has seen them."
"If you're not a sir, then I'm not a lady. Just Amy is fine." She smiled playfully, picking up her quiver and slinging it over her shoulder.
"I don't think anyone will have seen them. They travel fast, following the wind, and we often keep to ourselves when on the move." It seemed odd that she would be pulled to this place. Surely the knights, such as Galahad, would protect it well? Unless there was a deeper issue within the foundation of the court. She would need to see those sorts of things first hand, but she had no idea how to even begin demanding to be present at King Arthur's castle!
It felt wrong to call a Lady anything other than that, Especially one that he'd just met. Be that as it may, if that's what she wanted then he would have to respect it. Though him turning slightly away from her to save himself from shying away from her smile.
"Then what is your plan if you ever became separated? Did you have a meeting point or a way to communicate with one another?"
She best tread carefully in what she said. She didn't want to disturb time or lose Galahad's trust.
"We usually send messages by carrier but I was attacked and mine was- disposed of." She looked at the floor. She didn't like lying like this. "We don't have a meeting place - we're so often on the move, and while we have a place we call 'home' it's extremely far away from here."
But Galahad was not one to mistrust, and simply took the girls word at face value and with a nod. "If you don't mind my asking, what will you do now? If you have no intention in staying in the city and have no way of contacting your comrades.." It seemed like a difficult situation that he could assist with if given the chance.
Maybe he could try and find her something more in line with the Kingdom's usual attire?
"I've been staying in these woods for the past few days, sleeping either in the trees or off the route. Oh, and practising my archery. I don't want to be caught off guard again." If Galahad looked to the tree she had been targeting, he would notice the small cluster of notches in the centre of it's trunk where Amy had been repeatedly firing and pulling her arrows from it's bark.
"The only other way to see my friends that I can think of is to assist the Kingdom in some way." She hummed. She hoped her little hint might spur Galahad to invite her along on an adventure of some kind.
"Assist the Kingdom?" Odd. Unless she was thinking about trying to glean information from the city.
Though it wasn't his place to offer directly.. "Most of the Knights and City Guard have been sent to a neighboring Kingdom. If you were to ask the King, I'm certain that he would allow you to help keep watch." If anything could prove his nativity to strangers, it was outright giving away the fact that their defenses had been lacking as of late.
He didn't seem to grasp the possibility of giving away weakness as he motioned to the city. "I could retrieve something for you to wear."
Oh, it didn't slip by her. She paused, before nodding. "That'd be fantastic! Then I could stay in the city without worrying about being mobbed."
Maybe this was why she was here, to help Galahad! He claimed he wasn't a 'Sir' yet, so maybe she could help him become a Knight. It was a good thing he had told her and not some wrong-doer about the current lack of guards in the city. "Does anyone else know about the Knights' whereabouts?"
"Yes, but their location and route is known only to those involved in it, as well as the Royal Family." Unless it was unimportant missions, he usually had no idea where the Knights went on their journeys.
"If you'll stay here I will return to the city and find something for you to wear." ...Though he would have a difficult time trying to justify finding a ladies dress. It could present a problem.
Well, looks like she definitely needed to help keep the place safe if everyone knew that the knights weren't at home!
"I can do that; I'll gather up my things while you're gone. Just say you found a lady in trouble if you get any funny looks. It's the one time I'll let you say that about me!" She gave him a wink. Hey, it's not everyday she could flirt with a knight-in-training!
And it wasn't every day a Knight-in-training would flush a light shade of red, either. "I-i'll do as you say. Please wait here. I'll be back shortly." He said simply as he turned back towards the castle. Surely, he could put off the rest of the patrol if it was to help someone in need. He'd just have to make sure to sweep the rest of the area quickly later on to make up for it.
Amy giggled to herself as he walked off. She didn't intend to tease him too much - the reason it was so funny with Sonic was because of how disgruntled he got, and she didn't want to end up giving Lancelot the wrong impression.
She made sure she gathered her things. She only ever had what was on her when the Ring dropped her off. It was good because then she was lugging a load of equipment between worlds and couldn't leave something behind. Bad because it meant she couldn't be prepared. She made sure her cloak was covering her clothes - on second thought, she should have gone with him. She sighed and sat down on the grass to wait.
Having a lack of foresight was something he could be guilty of from time to time. It could prove to have some unintended consequences..as it did in this case.
Dresses..were expensive. Clothing didn't come easy for commoners so it was a big purchase. He didn't anticipate how many people would have questions of remarks about him looking for a Ladies dress. The whole ordeal left him a flustered mess by time he got what he came for and headed back to the outskirts of the city with the dress in tow.
He came upon the camp again and held out the lump of blue fabric. It was a rather simple (but elegant) dress with a skirt that draped the floor and sleeves that were long and billowing. There was some sewn detail near the bottom of them hem. "Your dress, my lady?"
Amy had been expecting a more plain dress, one a commoner would wear each day. But this dress looked like it was made for a special event. She took it gratefully. "Thanks, I owe you one for this. Turn around, okay? I'll tap you when I've changed." She darted behind the nearby tree to put the dress on, folding up her clothes and packing them away.
She stepped carefully in the dress, looking over it. She had never owned a dress like this one before and she didn't want to ruin it after Galahad had recieved it for her. Making sure it was fitting correctly, she tapped Galahad on the shoulder. "Reckon I'll fit in now?"
Change? She was going to change. He forgot about that as well.
Galahad stiffly turned around and put both hands over his eyes to ensure that he saw nothing. He couldn't bear to compromise a young ladies dignity like that.
Even with the tap on the shoulder he didn't turn around or uncover his face. "Perhaps.. I am not the best person to be the judge of that?"
"What do you mean? You live here!" She wasn't asking if she was pretty, she was asking if she would blend in with everyone else! She walked around him and stood in front of him, raising an eyebrow. "Why are you still covering your eyes?"
She reached forward and took his hands, pulling them away from his face. She never knew a knight would be so bashful!
"Y-you're a lady. I can't risk looking." His eyes were still squeezed shut when he felt her hands pull his down, and only then did he hesitantly peek one of them open. He then looked at her and then at the dress before glancing off. "It looks.. acceptable." Like something he would see others wear in the city. Not that he ever looked.
"I told you I'd changed!" She just laughed. When he glanced off she shook her head, picking up her things. "Careful, I might start swooning with compliments like that."
Her quiver was slung over one shoulder, the sachel with her clothes and everything else that survived her initial ambush over the other and in her hand she carried her longbow. Perfect!
Swooning? He cleared his throat at the mere mention and resigned to walking ahead. If ever it was painfully obvious that comments like that made him clam up, evident from the refusal to look at her. Even if it was a joke, he couldn't help but take it seriously to some degree.
Perhaps the result of having an ever-too-serious father.
"..This way." He tried to quickly make his way towards the city.
Well, she hadn't expected him to completely clam up. Woops.
She caught up and walked alongside him, enjoying the quiet for a little while. "So, what is the name of this place? Have you lived here your whole life?" Maybe asking some general questions would help open him up again.
